I prefer to wear contacts so I don't have to hide my eyes, but every once in a while I run out and forget to order more in time. I recall the day my second grade teacher realized I needed glasses... I had begun to suspect I couldn't see as well as the other children and I avoided the dreadful truth of my true identity as a "four eyes". One day the teacher called me out asking me to read a sentence on the white board. I did my best, but I couldn't see, so I made my best guess from my imagination and all the children howled with laughter.. She called my parents and told them she thought I may need glasses. That weekend me and my parents and sister went to the river beach and as we sat, my mom pointed to a large sign hanging from a bridge above us. Again, I couldn't read the darned words... so, with all the confidence in the world I made my very best guess, and said "DANGER! Beware of sharks!". My family shouted and cried with laughter and gasped for breath between cackles as I hung my head, having sealed my own fate. My mom finally pulled herself together and said, "You're getting glasses girly". Noooo.... Still, I fermenter the day I first tried on my coke bottle thick prescription glasses and looked up at a giant redwood tree and suddenly saw that the tree had branches and the branches had birds! I looked down and felt ten feet tall, the sudden definition creating a depth of field I had never experienced. There was a silver lining..
