It just feels so…girlie. You know?
And why do I feel so uncomfortable with that word? “Girlie”? Probably because it drums up an image of a helpless, shallow, eek-there’s-a-spider-squish-it-for-me-while-I-squeal-and-run-away-crying type of individual. Or one of the Mean Girls or Ashley sisters from Disney’s Recess. Women as vicious and vengeful and they are beautiful.
I guess in a way it sounds “weak”. It holds a connotation that leaves an unsavoury flavour on my little pink tongue, built on cultural and societal stereotypes that have seeped into me like water on a sponge.
But it’s just a colour. A freakin’ colour. Why should it bother me so much to embrace and acknowledge that? It’s just a colour.
